Dr. Manuel Hernandez is a Teaching Associate Professor of Biomedical and Translational Sciences at the Carle Illinois College of Medicine at the University of Illinois Urbana–Champaign. He also holds affiliate appointments in the Departments of Bioengineering, Kinesiology and Community Health, the Neuroscience Program, and the Beckman Institute for Advanced Science and Technology. Dr. Hernandez earned his PhD in Biomedical Engineering from the University of Michigan, where his research focused on neuromechanics and movement disorders. His current work explores the use of wearable sensors, virtual reality, and machine learning to understand gait, aging, anxiety, and fall risk. As an advisory board member of Jdable, he provides scientific and research-driven guidance to ensure the organization’s assistive technologies are evidence-based, inclusive, and grounded in the latest advancements in neuroscience and human-centered engineering.
